Jack worked as Music Director and Sound Post Production. His piece “kunanyi” featured in the film – composed in collaboration with Kinny Langford and Jaxon Stickler. In 2021, We Belong To The Land premiered to a sold out audience of 200+ at nipaluna / Hobart’s State Theatre, was part of TEDx Hobart’s 2022 Program and featured in Flickerfest’s “Best of Australian Shorts” 2022 tour.
SELF

SELF is an experience by Harry Holcombe James
(https://harryholcombejames.com) with music and sound by Jack McLaine. SELF takes the viewer into new found perspectives of their being. Presented with a reflective image of themselves, experiencers are taken on a journey of technologically mediated meditation, producing mind-altering context for self-reflection. It’s introspection with a sadistic twist. SELF was presented as part of MONA FOMA’s 2021 program, selling out and reaching capacity for the duration of its presentation.
This project was assisted through Arts Tasmania by the Minister for the Arts.
An audiovisual rite of self-reflection, and a journey of technologically assisted meditation.
“Sunday morning I raced across town just in time to be taken offline by Self, a solo immersive experience that wouldn’t be out of place at Mona itself. … Harry Holcombe-James’s trick with Self was needing just 10 minutes to impart the unsettling sensation of meeting yourself as if an other. It was a weirdly touching, melancholic feeling that stayed long after I put my shoes back on at the top of the stairs on the way out. I won’t spoil it beyond saying it consists of a short film, music, a lie down and flashing lights…” (Broadsheet.com)

Sumner - Stranded (Live from lutruwita / Tasmania)

The Stranded Live Video was produced and directed by Sumner.
‘When shooting the music video for ‘Stranded’, we were completely struck by the beauty of the wild west coast of lutruwita / Tasmania. Beaches without a soul in sight, wild landscapes, a disused airport under looming mountain ranges. When it was time to record a live version of the track, we returned to one of our favourite scenes from the video with a crew to film and record the live performance as the sun was setting on the tarmac, the sounds reverberating across the empty airstrip”
relay // country remembers her names - Madeline Flynn and Tim Humphrey with Theresa Sainty
Presented at MONA FOMA 2021. A slowly unfolding relay of land and sea signals echoes across our fair island, opening and closing the festival. Foghorns, boat horns, sirens, experimental intonarumori instruments, palawa kani (the language of Tasmanian Aboriginal people), and other sound-making apparatus call each other over land and water, and ask us to reflect on where we are. From wukalina / Mount William and pilawaytakinta / Low Head, to Queenstown, Launceston and nipaluna / Hobart.
